fix the "Select by Stem" function.
I recently started using Conjugation Nation in my French classes. The kids loved it when we did it for être/avoir and first-group verbs. However, I was disappointed today when we tried to do the same activity for second-group verbs.
I directed my class to use the "Select by Stem" function to narrow the focus. This function allows you to choose -ER verbs, -IR verbs, and -RE verbs. These are common breakdowns for first, second, and third-group conjugations, so I selected the one I needed (-ir). However, rather than only selecting verbs that are conjugated according to second-group rules, the program selected all verbs that end in -ir even if they belong to a different conjugation set.
While I am comforted that computers have still yet to replace linguists, I am annoyed that I realized this flaw in front of a classroom full of students. In my next class, I will rectify the situation by taking the time to individually select second-group verbs although this eats away at our instructional period. This is a problem that must be addressed in future iterations of the app if I am to continue using it.
I’m sorry for the confusion. I’m not sure that all users have the understanding of groups that you have, and it may be required to have another button, “Select by Group” to avoid confusing existing users.
In the meantime, perhaps you can select the second group verbs and then use the “Save List” feature to save time in class.
Thanks for using the app, and I appreciate your feedback.
